Wireless Remote Monitor for Cathodic Protection Uses
ORBCOMM LEOS Satellite Network for Worldwide Communication

Austin, TX – May 30, 2006: American Innovations (AI) is now offering a new addition to the APM4AM family of Bullhorn® wireless remote monitoring products—the APM4AMCP-ORB.

Designed for the corrosion professional, this 6 channel device is ideal for monitoring cathodic protection rectifiers, test points, and critical bonds. Because the device uses the ORBCOMM LEOS (low-Earth orbit) satellite network for communication, you can monitor your equipment no matter where it is located; anywhere oil and gas are found, produced, and transported. American Innovations holds a patent covering the use of low-earth orbit satellites for remote monitoring of cathodic protection systems.

APM4AMCP-ORB units monitor inputs from equipment 24/7 and communicate on a scheduled and/or by exception basis. Notifications of alarm events are available via email, fax, page and/or voice. With secure access, data can be viewed using a standard Internet browser from anywhere in the world, day or night.

“Due to overwhelming customer demand, American Innovations rapidly developed a low-cost APM4AM remote monitor built specifically for the cathodic protection industry using the ORBCOMM satellite network,” explained Lee Blankenstein, VP of Sales & Marketing. “The APM4AMCP-ORB extends our line of low-cost monitors and provides exceptional coverage to the corrosion professional. Use of the ORBCOMM network opens up international frontiers that were previously unserved due to the lack of coverage and affordable monitoring solutions.”

The APM4AMCP-ORB model has a total of 6 inputs. Channels 1–4 accept analog or digital signals. Channel 5 can be digital or an accumulator and channel 6 can be digital or an accumulator reset. It is powered by a lead acid battery charged by a solar panel or AC charger and contained in a NEMA 4X enclosure. The sealed, self-contained unit includes an antenna, power supply, and mounting bracket. It comes standard with built-in surge protection and integral rectifier interface and/or test point filtering functionality.
