About AI
American Innovations (AI) is a privately held
company based in Austin, Texas with offices in Littleton, Colorado;
Longview, Texas; Calgary, Alberta; and Houston, Texas. We provide
business solutions to various markets and industries with a focus
on the oil and gas industry. Our solutions include:
AI is organized in two divisions: the Integrity
Management Division (IMD) is headquartered in Littleton,
Colorado and the Field
Data Division (FDD) is headquartered in Austin, Texas. The
divisions are autonomous and focused on delivering “best
in class” solutions to our clients, yet work together
to share knowledge about the industry and ensure that our products
work together to form a seamless solution.
The Integrity Management Division (IMD) became
part of AI through the acquisition of Bass-Trigon in
2003. Originally founded as Trigon Software in 1992, IMD developed
one of the earliest systems for pipeline risk assessment and
integrity management. As risk management experts, IMD serves
the petroleum and natural gas pipeline industry and has deployed
systems throughout the world. More than 50 multinational companies
have come to rely on IMD's turnkey systems to improve the efficiency,
reliability and safety of their pipeline operations.
IMD provides a fully integrated integrity management
solution for hazardous liquids pipeline companies following criteria
provided in API 1160 and OPS regulations and natural gas pipeline
companies following the criteria of ANSI B31.8S and OPS regulations.
As a participant in the development of the standards, IMD offers
a complete solution including HCA identification (liquid spill
modeling and/or rupture dispersion), baseline assessment plan
development, data integration and alignment, threat and consequence
analysis, software licensing, documentation, data mining, and
other engineering services.
The Field Data Division (FDD) includes the Pipeline
Compliance System and Allegro
Field Computer acquired from Bass-Trigon,
the MicroMax current
interrupters acquired from Envirosense, and the Bullhorn remote
monitoring system.
Originally developed by Dr. Jim Bass in 1982,
the industry standard Pipeline Compliance System (PCS) has been
deployed with more than 1,500 users in the petroleum, natural
gas and water industries throughout the world. The PCS solution
features module software to meet your specific needs for storing,
analyzing and reporting corrosion and compliance data.
The Allegro Field Computer is the industry’s
most advanced, rugged and versatile hand-held computer for gathering
and managing pipeline and facility data. The unit is a powerful
Windows CE pen-based computer with optional integrated voltmeter,
cathodic protection applications and GPS module. It is designed
to work seamlessly with the PCS software.
Bullhorn remote monitoring is a low-cost, reliable,
telemetry system used in a wide variety of markets and applications.
It allows remote industrial equipment to communicate information
and alarms without human intervention. The Bullhorn system has
been deployed by every major oil and gas company in North America.
Our customers are monitoring gas flow meters, storage tanks,
cathodic protection systems, compressors, site security, and
much more. Other industries such as agriculture, waste and water
management, and railroad are also using our Bullhorn system to
monitor various types of equipment.
Acquired from Envirosense in 2004, AI's MicroMax
Interrupters provide GPS synchronized current interruption. The
GPS80 and GPS200 models are relay independent, provide multiple
interruption schedules and auto-resume after power loss.
History (top
of page)
AI was founded in the late 1980s with the goal
of inventing a microprocessor-based system for automated electricity
metering. The AIMetering System was introduced commercially in
1990. Over the next ten years the AIMetering System developed
into a leading solution for automated electricity metering.
In 1994, AI was acquired by HM International.
That following year, AI introduced the Powerlon automatic metering
device in Laredo, Texas for the first large-scale LonWorks home
automation project. Powerlon is still the only retrofit power-line
carrier metering device for LonWorks networks.
In 2000, the Bullhorn wireless remote monitoring
system was introduced. Originally based on the Aeris.net™ cellular
control channel network, and now including satellite communications,
the Bullhorn system has been deployed by virtually every major
oil and gas company in North America for low-cost, reliable remote
monitoring.
In 2003, AI acquired the assets of Bass-Trigon
Software (BTS) from Corrpro Companies. BTS was formed through
the merger of two leading companies - Bass Software and Trigon
Software. In 1984, Dr. Jim Bass founded Bass Software to develop
software to manage and analyze pipeline corrosion compliance
information. Trigon Software focused on pipeline risk assessment
software and was founded by Michael Gloven in 1992 as a spin-off
from Trigon Engineering, a pipeline engineering company headquartered
in Denver, Colorado. The two companies merged in 1996 with the
goal of providing pipeline operators with an integrated software
solution to manage pipeline compliance information and perform
advanced risk assessment analyses. Bass-Trigon was acquired by
Corrpro Companies in 1998.
The integrity management activities of Bass-Trigon
have been organized into the Integrity
Management Division based in Littleton, Colorado. The PCS
and Allegro Field Computer products are managed by the Field
Data Division in Austin, Texas.
In 2004 AI acquired the assets of Envirosense.
Envirosense was a leader in current interruption and remote current
interruption. The Envirosense products and services have been
folded into the Field Data Division.

AI is a privately-held Texas limited partnership
controlled by HM
International (HMI). HMI is a privately-held company founded
in 1979 with the objective of acquiring undervalued assets and
creating value through strong, decentralized management and a
long term investment focus. The first of its acquisitions was PGI
International which has grown from $3 million to over $30
million in sales. In 1983, HMI acquired ElectroCom Automation
(ECA) from E-Systems. ECA designed, manufactured, and installed
automated sorting systems based on optical character recognition
technology licensed from Daimler Benz. ECA grew from $25 million
in sales to over $450 million. In 1992, ECA was taken public
and listed on the NYSE. Today ECA is owned by Siemens. HMI has
controlling interest in a variety of businesses with combined
sales of almost $1 billion.
